41930 ACALYPHA REPENS STRAWBERRY FOXTAIL EUP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Strawberry Firetail/Foxtail"--(hispaniola) Trailing slim stems disappear beneath the small leaves and rosy pink velvety "Tails" which mimic their "Chenile" brethern--resembling roseate chenile pendant woolyworms fat on steroids. These terminally cute critters are splendid additions to any urn or windowbox as well as hanging baskets as they spill over the edge with masses of fluffy soft red catkins as long as bright light and warm temperatures assure their formation. Our customers report this to be one of the best choices for a sunny indoor windowsill, lite gardening setup, or hobby greenhouse container as it will be nearly everblooming in such a site. This will not bloom in low light or cool conditions; so chill sensitive we cannot ship during cool periods.

30550 ACORUS GRAMINEUS MASAMUNE ARAC HP HT PRICE: $4.75 Bright white-striped leaves similar to A.g. variegatus--altho considered to be more compact and shorter as matures. An easily grown houseplant, always a star in a terrarium setting, equally happy in a damp area outside in our climate here.

10007 ADIANTUM CAUDATUM POLYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 6.75 Fountains of beautiful cascading shimmering fronds; young ferns form at the tips of each long mature frond, thus called the "Walking Maidenhair Fern"; from Old World tropics. Extremely dramatic when grown as a hanging basket subject in conditions of reliable humidity levels; wonderful as a carpet for your hobby greenhouse and a big favorite as it slowly populates the nooks and corners of your favorite big boned Wardian Case--remember that it prefers sweet soil.

10014 ADIANTUM PERUVIANUM POLYP TERR TGH $ 10.00 "Silver Dollar Maidenhair Fern" Once again available. We hope to have these available again throughout the Fall Season! Large dramatic species with pink toned new foliage hardening into rich green arching fronds. Must have high humidity to perform well--loves a large Wardian Case as its home (this is far too large for a small or narrow terrarium); nonetheless, if given a cool bright windowsill and a pebble tray, it will also become an impressive specimen given time and humidity; always a star in any hobby greenhouse. Always a popular and much sought after dramatic rarer plant!

52015 AECHMEA FOSTER'S FAVORITE [HYB] BRO HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.50 "Red Urn" Rich glossy maroon narrow urns brilliantly display fabulous heads of coral "berries" tipped with blue blossoms. Easy "Lacquered Wine Cup" a hybrid of A. victoriana x racinae quickly forming a colony of glossy elegantly fluted urns... and why not try this as an addition to your summer urns as a dramatic jolt of glossy maroon?

52020 AECHMEA GAMOSEPALA BRO HP TGH PRICE: $5.50 "Bottlebrush Bromo" Compact, rapidly-clustering urns with erect bottlebrush spikes studded with clove-shaped reddish bracts tipped with electric magenta petals. Easy house plant for the windowsill.

52273 AECHMEA GAMOSEPALA LUCKY STRIPES BRO HP TGH PRICE: $15.00The nearly spineless outcurved erect leaves are broadly striped bright white, wonderfully overlapping to form an upright glossy urn like rosette--beautiful with the blue petaled blossoms tighly packed on a "Bottlebrush" inflorescence; certainly a must in any collection of exceptional variegates. Always sought out by Bromelliad lovers and fanciers of extreme variegation as this is an especially undemanding plant, given the drama of its appearance. We finally had enough stock to drmatically reduce the price.

52032 AECHMEA PINELIANA MINIATA BRO HP CGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Bristle Cone Plant" Copper pink hued silver urn edged in maroon teeth--compact; pinecone inflorescence of red bracts over- whelming the small yellow blossoms, held aloft on stout stem. Easy to grow despite its flamboyant color and habit. The dense red bracted spikes with red sepaed blossoms with lilac petals emerge from the depths of mature urns. An excellent choice for those desiring astounding color with little fuss other than to locate this out of direct sun.

60726 AEONIUM KIWI-ONIUM [HYB] CRA CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.50 Slim wiry stalks topped with congestions of wide cillate leaves with their variegated broadened tips suggesting fashion conscious nails painted lime cream--this variegation trailing on up the margin of each of the waxy dainty leaves. The beautiful colorations seems always to be especially much more bright in the cooler winter months when new growth flourishes. Usually ( in the category of "This Is The End of Culture As We Know It") this Aeonium cultivar is marketed in the language of terminal cute as "Kiwi Krassula" in California.

20016 AESCHYNANTHUS MICRANTHUS VARIEGATE GES HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Variegated Himalayan Lipstick Plant" The leathery glossy foliage emerges with ivory-white striations which fades with time into bright lime brushings--striking with the intense small red-purple flowers. Easily grown small statured species prefering cooler temperatures to produce the best variegation. While most Aeschynanthus produce heavy outarching stems gradually elongating until they cascade down (and thus best displayed as an older specimen in a hanging basket), this species is more delicately statured, quite at home in a tall pot on your windowsill or in your lightgarden. Always popular as is easily bloomed and tends to survive the occassional watering (underwatering?) mishap.

43113 AGROSTIS STOLONIFERA [HORT] GRA TGH HH PRICE: $ 4.75Very dramatic, yet undemanding "Hanging Bamboo Grass" given the current marketing "Green Twist" boost as this finely bladed, thickly substanced subtropical grass soon becomes a most dramatic hanging basket subject--obviously a great favorite with the designers of "Green Walls." 11438 ALSOPHILA COOPERII [CYATHEA AUSTRALIS] CYT CGH PRICE: $10.00 "Australian Tree Fern" Young plants present a spreading canopy of metallic deep green arching fronds supported by a cinnamon trunk; eventually a massive stunning specimen. We have grown this to a most impressive size on a sunny porch, glass enclosed during the winter.

41845 ALTERNANTHERA FICOIDEA ROSEA NANA AMARA HP PRICE: $ 4.50 Marvelous "Pygmy Parrotleaf" with very delicate-appearing spatulate rose-colored leaves forming a lilac cloud of foliage on the twiggy bushy plantlets; very distinctive lilac tone rendered quite delicate in tone by the filigreed character of the thin leaves closely intersticed--nonetheless an easily grown, quite vigorous Victorian clone unbeaten when you need a showy but easily blending ornamental to beautifully cascade from your urn, basket, or windowbox and make absolutely no fuss about it. Our customers proclaim this to be one of the ultimates in "spill" plants for mixed containers.

43117 CHLOROPHYTUM COMOSUM BONNIE PPAF LIL TGH CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 The uniquely fetching "Curly Spider Plant" with centrally striped creamy variegation but each leaf curls and swirls in the Shirley Temple tuffets, sending out abbreviated corkscrew stems with more twisted plantlets suspended in air. Oglesby introduction. This whorled, tostled, and flounced cultivar remains much smaller in stature than the other comosum cultivars.

40118 CHLOROPHYTUM COMOSUM MANDIANUM LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Yellow Spider " Golden Ribbon Plant" Rather dwarf cultivar with rich yellow center stripes on curling short leaves thickly clustered; low dwarfish growing habit insures its popularity as a pot plant as its rich colors and congested habit will not elbow out its neighbors--This old old compact selection from Manda's Greenhouses has beennewly "rediscovered" as an excellent cultivar for summertime windowboxes.

40119 CHLOROPHYTUM COMOSUM VARIEGATUM LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "White Spider" Unusual low succulent flat outstretched leaves margined ivory; odd cultivar of remarkable endurance. Far more succulent rubbery foliage with more lateral growth habit than the rest of the tribe: thus, emerging as the best form to plant out in bedding, urns, windowboxes, and so on as survives (and even perfers) high sun and wind exposure with minimal damage--and thus by far the most satisfactory cultivar to use in breezy exposed situations.

As easy to grow as Cissus quadrangularis is difficult, now quite popular with designers of open wire topiary frames.

41072 CISSUS SICYOIDES VIT TGH HP PRICE: $ 2.50 "Curtain Ivy" or "Princess Vine" Brazilian rainforest vine will form a dramatic curtain of aerial 12' long roots if maintained in high humidity--the former sensation at Longwood Gardens and the mainstay of the "tropical look" at the Opryland Hotel (which maintains the largest area under glass east of the Mississippi). Many of our hobby greenhouse friends let this rapid grower with its waxed gloss foliage and busyt tendrils clamber under or over the roof of their greenhouse during the summer--finding it easier to cut down a few vines in the fall to reintroduce full light than either struggling to remove a scrim or to wash off a lime wash, neither of which can be quickly recycled into the compost pile.

69021 CLERODENDRON THOMSONIAE VER TGH HP PRICE: $ 4.25 The dark leaves paired on this attrative vine decorated with terminal clusters of inflorescence of odd "Bag Flower" white calyxes from which emerge brilliant red "Bleeding Heart" corollas. Reddish "Dragon Head" stavenger outfacing blossoms most likely to appear during the winter after a coolish fall helps set buds. This is a more vigorous clone than the 'Hostag' we offered years ago which tolerated no high temperatures; the absolutely pendant stems make this a natural for the hanging basket, although it is also a favorite of designers of moss topiaries as it is easily pinned to the moss surface, rooting along the stem. This is a handsome plant for indoors or even on the porch during the summer.

41488 COPROSMA KIRKII VARIEGATA [HYB] RUB CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.75 "Dwarf Mirror Plant" Dwarf densely branched willowy stems with small waxy lance leaves margined bright white; said to produce nearly translucent flowers dotted scarlet, which are followed by creamy white berries. C. acerosa x repens hybrid demanding full sun to flourish. Wonderful cascading from a hanging basket or from a summer windowbox; very popular with topiary designers as can readily be pinned to the mossed frame to form a wonderful peacock' s tail, or the white stripes of a zebra, and so on.

53009 COSTUS FOSTER GARDENS [SPECIES] ZIN TGH HP PRICE: $ 8.50 Unidentified species with bamboo-like stalks with rich green veined, semi-succulent leaves with glossy purple-maroon under-sides; with maturity, taller stems produce terminal cone-like terminal heads of rich salmon blossoms with curious coral patterns. Very reliable mid-winter blossom sprays are hopelessly charming. If you tend to overwater your succulents, this is the plant for you.

60288 CRASSULA SARMENTOSA MEDIO-PICTA CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.25 Cascading succulent stems punctuated with pairs of rounded coarsely toothed waxed leaves with creamy-greengold central stripes--this sport originated in our greenhouses in the mid seventies and remains popular in the trade today.

A great plant choice to jump start your investigation of the Bromeliad tribe.

66017 CRYPTOCEREUS ANTHONYANUS CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Zig Zag Cactus" or "Anthony's Rickrack" Fragrant peachy yellow and red night blooms on the sculpturesque flat fishbone designed stems. From Uruguay (and thus tolerant of considerable chill), where this is known as the "Hummingbird Plant," this undemanding carpeting or cascading "shrimp" cousin (while traditionally a greenhouse basket or groundcover subject) has recently become popular as an undemanding attractive summer urn and windowbox item adding a soft velvety tone to any combination.

30202 DIEFFENBACHIA MACULATA BARRAQUINIANA ARAC HP PRICE: $4.00 Pointed leaf has bold white midrib and almost randomly scattered creamy dots; the leaf stalks (as well as the striated trunks) are ivory white and thus quite popular in Asia as considered to denote "bringer of good luck." 66021 EPIPHYLLUM CHRYSOCARDIUM CAC HP CGH PRICE: $ 12.00 "Fernleaf Cactus" Bright glossy green flat stems in wide fish-bone pattern; nightblooming white flowers with masses of golden filaments suggest its native Mexican name, "Golden Heart." Impressive in large hanging baskets--but be reminded that this species is a long term project. We send generous unrooted cuttings in dry moss. Do not confuse this with the easier, smaller statured "Rickrack Cactus" offered above as Cryptocereus anthonyanus.

66023 EPIPHYLLUM OXYPETALUM CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Night Blooming Cereus" or "Orchid Cactus" Large fragrant white flowers, rose outside, on flat waxy crenate "leaves" (actually the terminal sections of the stems) flaring out at the ends of the lower supporting stiff rounded stems. This is the one Grandma drug out to the open front porch so that every possible neighbor could be collared and brought over to the porch for those several summer nights the giant scented blossoms opened in all their unreal splendor. Maybe I've lived in a small town too long? Sent to you as generous unrooted cuttings in moss.

66193 EPIPHYLLUM SPECIES GRANADA WHITE CAC CGH HP PRICE: $ 3.75 Lovely slim deep green ribbons cascade to present the white winter blossoms. Very effective grown as a cascading specimen of cascading succulent ribbons like upsidedown seaweed--would never even need to bloom in order to deserve a place in any display. An excellent one to start with as a houseplant as it is native to an area without any cool autumn period, and thus does not require the cool (but not chill) fall temperatures required by most the giant flowered hybrids in order to initiate their flower buds. Cheap and easy. The ideal date. Sent as mossed unrooted cuttings.

30229 EPIPREMNUM [SCINDAPSIS] AUREUM ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Golden Pothos" Yellow splashed waxy leaved "Devil's Ivy" is sitll unrivaled as dish garden and hanging basket survivor.

30233 EPIPREMNUM FALCIFOLIUM AUREUM ARAC HP TG PRICE: $ 6.00 "Golden Pothos" Beautiful scandent vine with closely ranked golden lance leaves; this quite rare cultivar of the vigorous indonesian species creates a spectacular hanging basket curtain of bright lemon gold, but equally beautiful in dishgardens and as a ground cover for taller, more leggy houseplants. Rarely offered, easily grown, always stunning. Recently Martha Stewart suggested adding this to summertime hanging baskets and mixed foliage urns: we tried it and: as usual, she is absolutely on track as all performed beautifully.

20125 EPISCIA COTTON CANDY GES TERR TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Sea green lvs with silver glow; pink fls with cream centers.

20153 EPISCIA LONGWOOD GARDENS GES TERR TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Unsure of the identification of this plant at this time. It is a strong grower with rubust habit. Fills a basket nicely and is easy to grow. Deep red flowers and very floriferous.

67035 EUPHORBIA FLAMELEAF (SPECIES) EUP TGH HP PRICE: $ 2.50 "Flameleaf Spurge" Multitudes of slender stems flutter with rounded diamond-shaped leaves of dusky violet fading to emerald green edges. While of delicate appearance, actually a very easy-to-grow houseplant, marvelous under lights. Amazon native. Absolutely excellent when added to outdoor summer urns, windowboxes and even to Hosta beds as the dusky purple small featured foliage makes any companion plant more special--especially successful when paired with Euphorbia 'Diamond Dust'.

40269 FICUS BURTT-DAVYI CANGO MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Leathery smooth oval leaves on low epiphytic species; popular among indoor bonsai trainers as waxy small leaves reduce well, the stems grow laterally quite easily, & (with good humidity) masses of strangler roots give good character especially as trained over coral or other character stones. (Techniques for this procedure are presented in several of the bonsai themed books we offer in the book section of this site.) At times demand outstrips our stock, so patience may be advised when ordering this lovely tiny fruited fig originally shared with us by Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens.

40306 FICUS CRATERSTOMA MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 Crinkly deep green leaves are elongated triangles from much- branched trunks; good indoor shrub/tree from Zimbabwe easily forming decorative strangler roots. Most interesting as a standard (soon swallowing up its initial training stake) for when "stooled" on top will send out endless shoots in all directions like a dandelion seed head, most effective with the small featured dark green foliage of pieslice glossy dark leaves. This has swallowed up several areas in our stockhouses as it will produce may aerial roots in a humid atmosphere and soon one observes it growing from the neighbors' pots and baskets--topiary growers love its growing vigor, flexible stems, and deep green tones.

41260 FICUS FRED BOUTIN MOR HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Unique woody, twiggy low growing "character" trunks give this quirky hybrid of F. carica x pumila high marks with cascade bonsai trainers who also value its richly haired, quilted foliage. this selfbranching jewel needs high humidity like its carica parent to maintain good spidermite free foliage; loves a pole or wall to clamber like its pumila parent. Of most interest to collectors as the Moraceae are notoriously difficult to hybridize as the blossoms face the center of the enclosed protofruit available only to the designated wasp species.. Not only prized by moss topiary designers but also now discovered by Wardian Case designers looking for a taller fig which will remain small featured.

54484 FICUS LYRATA COMPACTA MOR HP CGH $ 8.00 "Fiddle Leaf Fig" African species with dramatic dark handsom leathery foliage--an easy indoor plant. These are perfectly beautiful small plants ready to expand into imposing specimens for you. The most distinctive thing about this clone is that the leaves are closely and lightly packed, one on top of the other. Very good habit. It can be kept in a small pot longer than the more lanky species form. We recommend.

94028 FICUS PUMILA [REPENS] MOR HP TGH CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Creeping Fig" clasping stems covered by overlapping small dark oval leaves much valued as can be used in topiary, terrariums, wall covers, hanging baskets. 40289 FICUS PUMILA [REPENS] MINIMA MOR HP CGH TER PRICE: $ 4.25 "Quilted Creeping Fig" lovely tiny puckered leaves; miniatured dimpled form of a miniature species--the clasping stems tend to be utterly plastered against whatever it is busily covering. The best choice for covering the base surface of any tropical bonsai as prefers to flatten itself to the contour of the surface and has very small leaves. This is much prized by topiary designers who do not wish to sheer their mossed frames. Slow to establish and thus seldom offered in the trade.

40290 FICUS PUMILA [REPENS] QUERCIFOLIA MOR HP CGH TER PRICE: $ 10.00 "Miniature Oakleaf Fig" Tiny deep green leaves are deeply lobed. Not only is the individual leaf considerably smaller than the species form but each dimpled leaf is deeply lobed as if a tiny oak shaped cookie cutter was at work overtime. More clumping than running in habit, this is the "to die for" choice for the sophisticated terrarium or the stunningly wee topiary only inches high. The crown jewel of the "Creeping Fig" cultivars.

41881 FICUS PUMILA [REPENS] SNOWFLAKE MOR HP TERR PRICE: $ 4.75 Beautiful "Snowflake Fig" forms an overlapping mat made of irregularly lobed small glossy leaves with showy marginal bands of bright clear white. Show stopper known in Europe for reasons unclear as 'Arina' or 'White Sunny.'

40291 FICUS PUMILA [REPENS] VARIEGATA MOR HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Variegated Creeping Fig" White mottling best in cool conditions. This "sprinkled" form never reverts as do 'Snowflake' and 'Curly'; amazingly dramatic in its winter growth (in cool, not frosted spots) which emegers nearly white with lime green speckling and then gradually matures to a rich deep green tiny oval leaf sprinkled with white. Some customers in the tip of Florida and the hot spots of Texas inform us that the foliage emerges entirely green during the fryng hot months, but with cooler nights in the fall, start emerging white again. Quite wonderful.

40300 FICUS SAGITATA VARIEGATA MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Trailing Fig" dark quilted long leaves over wiry often creeping stems which arch to give an open effect. This is the beautiful variegated or marginated form of this old favorite. Not as clingy as the Ficus pumila types, but makes quite a nice ground cover in pots around larger plants. Also if often used as a hanging basket subject and perfect in mossed topiary use as the stems root into the moss.

58329 FITTONIA VERSCHAFFELTII FORTISSIMO ACA HP TERR PRICE: $ 6.75 A brand new variety of the Pink Nerve plant. If you wanted something bigger and more robust that could be grown anywhere, this is your choice. Not as colorfully bright as the other cultivars, but still a fine addition. While the texture is petite, the eventual size of this chill tolerant "Irish Lady's Eardrop" can be considerable. Customers in Key West and in San Antonio report this to be an excellent outdoor hedge.

40326 GYNURA BICOLOR (CREPEOIDES) COMP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Prostrate stems with deep velour leaves, purple beneath, from swollen root surface; Underated species from the Molluccas excellent in wintertime greenhouse baskets; equally at home cascading from windowboxes or urns in your summertime outdoor plantings. As eager and willing to grow and impress as aurantiaca is willing to disappoint! Too many extra trimmings or cuttings? Don't toss as herbalists consider this species to be a good source of vitamens and "other" nutrients.

Small enough in stature to be quite successful in terrarium and wardian case designs. Variegated but not necessarily margined! Beautiful "Hummingbird Ivy" noted for unusually strong contrast of dark flecks on snowy white & ochre mosaic leaves of very strong texture. Its popularity as never wavered, as it seems the easiest to grow of the sometimes fussy highly colored cultivars.

Similar to 'Chrysandra' but far more tostled, congested, and rumpled: how more Victorian can a plant be? More successfully presented as a mounding, rather than vining, highly variegated 3-D ivy,

50030 HEMIGRAPHIS (ALTERNATA ?) EXOTICA [HORT] ACA HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Waffle Plant" Shiny maroon marginally rolled leaves extremely quilted and seriously puckered and paired on red stems rooting at each node. Even flourishes as an aquatic plant!

54427 IMPATIENS WALLERIANA WHITE GARDENIA BAL HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Low mounds of foliage topped with boquets of very double bubbles of bright white tightly pettaled flowers. An old cultivar which we recently started propagating again as will bloom easily in your winter greenhouse.

55962 IPOMEA BATATAS ACE OF SPADES CONV TGH HP PRICE: $5.00 Striking blackish maroon spade shaped (heart shaped) leaves are thickly set on succulent trailing stems; same habit as 'Blackie' with edible white tubers. Recently has been "re-marketed" on East Coast as 'Purple Heart.' Must reflect a time of war. Fabulous in urns and baskets; very effective when paired with the chartreuse 'Margarita' in large outdoor bedding schemes. Will hold color well even in shady locations.

40403 IPOMEA BATATAS BLACKIE CONV TGH HP PRICE: $ 3.00 "Black Yam" or "Purple-leaved Sweet Potato" Dark palmate leaves overlap to create a starburst lacy effect while firmly anchored on sturdy maroon-stemmed vines; fabulous in hanging baskets. As popular now as when we first offered it some twenty years ago with Carolyn in the Country Hills catalogue.

49451 IPOMEA BATATAS GOLD FINGERS CONV TGH HP PRICE: $ 5.00 A fast growing form bright yellow lime like 'Margarita' but with attractively fingered leaves like 'Blackie'.

55616 IPOMEA BATATAS MARGARITA [CHARTREUSE] CONV HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 The "Golden Sweet Potato Vine" produces ranks of bright yellow-ochre heart shaped leaves, becoming more halbert-lobed as the plant expands & matures, even forming a fine purple rim in sun--obviously the perfect companion for 'Ace of Spades' as well as 'Blackie'; if grown during the winter in your greenhouse, will produce sparce violet blushed morning glory blossoms--more curious than decorative flowers.

59194 IPOMEA BATATAS PURPLE TUBER CONV TGH HP PRICE: $ 4.25 "Purple Yam" (although technically a "Sweet Potato" and not even related to the yam gang) Hawaiian clone with purple fleshed tubers (said to be at their most yummy when prepared with your deep pit roast pig); very ornately cut clean-green cookie cutter somewhat palmate foliage on self branching meandering stems. Amazingly popular! Certainly a case of having your 'tater cake and eating it too. We are impressed that this is the most ordered cultivar during some past seasons. Hawaiian cookouts seem to be on the increase. Or perhaps plantsmen simply like to eat their bedding or urn designs after enjoying the summer foliar display?

55564 IPOMEA BATATAS TRICOLOR [PINK POTATO] CONV CGH HH PRICE: $ 5.50 Remarkable slate green sharply lobed "Sweet Potato" leaves with bright pink margins setting to rosy cream. An amazingly beautiful cultivar initially shared with us by Doug Ruhren who had inherited it from Yinger's Asian peregrinations; and indeed, under the original clone name of 'Tricolor' it was a 1980s introduction in the nurseries and gardens of India--where it is pictured in publications from India printed and published in the 1920s.

56564 IPOMEA LADY FINGERS [SPECIES UNIDENTIFIED] CONV HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Extremely vigorous "Fingered Sweet Potato" with vigorous stems holding aloft stunning dark leaves, with seven deep fingered lobes accented with dark purple raised veins on the reverse. Loves aquatic conditions; but thrives equally well cascading dramatically from a windowbox or urn; needs a large basket if grown in a hanging basket for the foliage is quite vigorous and the tubers need room to form. Some have suggested that this may more correctly be Convolvulus althaeoides tenuissimus; others point out that it has the seven lobes of I mauritiana as well as the showy violed eyed winter morning glory blossoms so readily produced. Sometimes we have underestimated the popularity of this astoundingly vigorous showoff--but stock is plentiful currently.

40405 IRESINE HERBSTII AUREO-RETICULATA AMARA HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Very Seasonal, so available againg Spring 2012. "Chicken Gizzard Plant" Bright yellow-veined apple-green rounded leaves, with odd notched tips, accented by red-magenta petioles and stems--due to the delicacy of this foliage, not as vigorous as the other cultivars in bedding designs--for the same color qualities we recommend you use 'Formosa' (offered below) instead. Old fashioned puckered foliage again popular among indoor lightgardeners. We will not ship this until weather is consistently warm for it collapses completely if chilled.

41887 JASMINUM MULTIFLORUM [PUBESCENS] OLE HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Angel Hair Jasmine" from India to China: Freely spreading shrub with downy cordate leaves and clusters of intensely sweet scented white starlike flowers at the tips and along the stems when given full sun, adequate humidity and a rich medium. This "Downy Jasmine" has long been known as J. pubescens in the Florida trade where its willingness to bloom freely while in a container has made it a basic favorite.

40421 JASMINUM POLYANTHUM OLE CGH HP PRICE: $ 3.00 "French Perfume" Vigorous climber with attractive compound (foliate) leaves in opposite pairs and mid-winter clouds of white richly-scented flower clusters (which have pinkish cast in bright light as the unopened buds are blushed red). Basic to any collection, the Yunnan native is quite vigorous. Very very strongly scented--the one traditionally trained into Christmas season blooming live wreaths.

50091 JUSTICIA BRANDEGEANA JAMBALAYA ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Dwarf Shrimp Plant" A cultivar selected for its compact much-branched habit with attractive bronzy red drooping chain of bracts persisting much longer than the species form. Will bloom most seasons if given full sun and adequate fertilizer.

50041 JUSTICIA EXTENSA ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $4.75 "Camouflage Plant" Zaire native with erect stems completely covered by small leaves patterned ash-silver; clusters of tiny weird horned blossoms are quite intriguing. Modest, yet beautiful foliage houseplant deserving more popularity. Properly pruned, this is small statured enough to give height in a larger terrarium or Wardian Case where its lovely foliage designs can be displayed to advantage.
60374 KALANCHOE BEAUVERDII HYBRID CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Gray green noodle leaves in rigid opposite pairs with ridged tips producing adventituous plantlets, on scrambling wiry stems. Clusters of pendant glossy olive calyx bells, each with shiny salmon-pink petals with violet-speckled rims--quite a midwinter show. (Probably constitutes a distinct species as yet unidentified for us.)
60373 KALANCHOE BEAUVERDII SCANDENS CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "False Hoya" The wiry stems and blackish-green narrow curved leaves are Hoya mimics--but the adventituous plantlets on the leaf tips and the nodding maroon-dotted flask flowers strongly indicate the true identity. From Madagascar, where the hooked leaves help in the scramble through the brush and thornshrubs to display the showy clusters of blossoms to potential pollenizers...always a favorite of kids and luckily, only one swathe of lawn need be mowed in order to earn enough to afford this wonderment. Certainly a statement when trained on open wire topiary frames.

60389 KALANCHOE FEDTSCHENKOI CRA HP CGH PRICE: $3.50 "Purple Scallops" Amethyst, flour-dusted scalloped leaves are margined purple with brownish notches producing adventitious buds in sufficient light and humidity; elegant terminal clusters of pendant khaki-pink flowers appearing late winter. Madagascar native. Very attractive; easily grown given good light. Lovely coloration if grown in direct sun.

60390 KALANCHOE FEDTSCHENKOI MARGINATA CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Aurora Borealis Plant" Scalloped purplish leaves margined in bright ivory, toned pink in high light. Beautiful with the dangling clusters of mid-winter blossoms.

68490 KALANCHOE GNOME SLIPPERS [MANGANII X PORPHYROCALYX] CRA TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.75 Short statured stems thickly covered with elaborate rubbery deeply crennate leaves and topped mid-winter with wide clusters of inflorescenceorescenceated nodding slipper flowers of pale rose tipped gooseberry green. A charmer on any windowsill with possible K. petitana origins. We suspect various names to proliferate once this hits the broader marketplace, especially as the recently past administration may not recognize the existence of gnomes even though gnomes probably exist outside any current evolutionary theories. (And may be the necessary proof of creationism.)

60397 KALANCHOE LACINIATA CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Lace Leaf Kalanchoe" Overlapping ranks of stiff waxy leaves divided deeply like a lacy fern stuffed with sausage; head of shell-petaled flowers mid-winter. Very beautiful, yet seldom found available. Native to India, Africa, Yemen, Brazil and points between. Certainly considerably underutilized in dishgardens and succulent trough designs as is quite undemanding.

Largest and probably most dramatic of those species with adventituous plantlets on the foliage.

54078 LANTANA CAMARA GREG GRANT VER TGH CGH PRICE: $ 7.50 Distinctive discovery by Grant of a sport of the heirloom 'Flava' with its heads of sulphur yellow flowers fading to saffron pink, quite effective against this sport's leaves slashed with bright gold and splashed with cream. MICROGRAMMA PALMERII [NITIDA] POLYP TERR TGH $ 25.00 Many semiglossy small elongated-oval fronds held erect over the slim, hairy, slightly flatened rhizomes meandering over cork or treefern; because this fern evolved upon tropical treetrunks, it survives low humidity better than some; but truely thrives when given artifical rain forest (good humidity) conditions in a terrarium where it forms a dense otherworldly groundcover. We ship this miniature gem as divisions in moist moss.

14002 NEPHROLEPIS BISSERATA FURCANS POLYPO CGH HP $ 6.75 "Fishtail Fern" Large; frond tips fork into sections; this is a very large statured robust fern demanding a considerable space when mature--as tolerates full sun, now also a popular deck subject--but will take some time to achieve its full potential. Jones classifies this ornate cultivar as Nephrolepis falcata forma furcans. Slow to start, but strong to finish--never allow this to chill! For windowsill pots and mixed combination plantings we recommend various of the following tidier (and less agressive) dwarf selection:

14014 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA AUREA POLYP HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Golden Boston Fern" The heavy fronds are solid chartreuse yellow; makes a striking hanging basket subject; yet seems astoundingly similar to the golden variegated cultivar offered below in this listing of exaltata cultivars. Perfect choice for those not comfortable with the dormant cycles of the more famous purple leaved Oxalis regnellii atropurpurea (triangularis) which tyically rests during the winter to emerge from its pot until early spring. This deserves to be more popular than it currently is--especially as it is a real trooper in sunny windowboxes and patio urns of summertime, as well as the winter windowsill.

40703 OXALIS REGNELLII OXA HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.00 Obtriangular leaves are most attractive, plus nearly everblooming white flower clusters recommend this as the best Oxalis for the house--the Victorian's favorite. More than likely that rugged soul your grandmother grew in a clay filled coffee can in her sunny kitchen window. Fabulous as a hanging basket display in your hobby greenhouse as well as any number of container combinations outdoors during the milder seasons. While a tuberous species, this one seems to have no dormancy cycle as long as if given good light, well drained soil, and low amounts of fertilizer. If however, during your vacation your very most trusted friend forgets to water it and it drops all foliage, fear not: gradually start watering again and the tubers will send up new life.

40970 OXALIS RUBRA [ROSEA] OXA HP CGH PRICE: $ 6.00 Free-blooming "Old Fashioned Pink Shamrock" grandma grew on her windowsill with its seemingly endless clusters of bright rosy flowers, veined red, over the shamrock foliage. 66262 RHIPSALLIS CAPILLIFORMIS MOPHEAD CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Fabulous extreme form of this species named "formed like hair" as the very tiny slim stems divide constantly to form arched thick manes of fringed mopheads of foliage shown to advantage in a small basket or adding grace to a succulent wreath; quite tiny cream flowers. Epiphytic soil mix is imperative. Often sent as a mossed unrooted cutting

66108 RHIPSALIS CEREUSCULA CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 2.25 "Wickerware Cactus" or "Coral Cactus" Stout cylindric stems arch under the multitudes of shorter terminal joints which interarch to form three-dimensional "Art Deco" patterns. This makes a major statement in time. Occassionally sent as an unrooted cutting in moss.

66194 RHIPSALIS CRUCIFORME SPIRALIS CAC TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Corkscrew Cactus" The flattened stems twist like an auger. Thrives in bright broken light and barky mix kept barely moist. A perfect piece of flora for the terminally disturbed collector who will never find a perfect peace/piece of mind. Sent as an unrooted cutting in dry moss.

66128 RHIPSALIS MESEMBRYANTHEMOIDES CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Bottlebrush Cactus" or "Clumpy Mistletoe Cactus" Wonderful irregularly jutting cylindrical branches, with bristled apex areas, are tightly studded with wisk-branchlets. Brazilian epiphyte. Usually sent as unrooted cuttings in moss.

66256 RHIPSALIS RIO CASCADE [SPECIES UNIDENTIFIED] CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 A vigorous handsome "Cascade Ribbon Plant" with long very angular succulent segments (some flat two-dimensional, others with three jade green wings) typically branching at each segment - creating an impressive curtain. From Rio de Janero this stiffly outlined one is sent as a mossed unrooted cutting..

66161 RHIPSALIS RIVERO'S RED [SPECIES] CAC HP TG PRICE: $ 4.00Arched then completely pendant flat tapeworm stems turn deep violet red in high light; tiny blossoms are followed by ornamental shell pink berries lining both edges of the ribbon stems most attractively. This unsegmented stemmed Caribbean now considered to possibly be Discocactus ramulosus--a more dramatic cascading member of the epiphytic Cacti cannot be imagined. Equally effective in a modest plant grouping or in a serious visual presentation in a conservatory. Very successfully combined with Bromeliad baskets and pots. Sometimes this is ordered in considerable numbers, depleting our potted stock; at such times we will ship ample cuttings in moss.

66038 RHIPSALIS (HATIORA) SALICORNIOIDES CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Drunkard's Dream" or "Dancing Bones" Epiphytic Rhipsalis cousin with stiftly arching thickly-branched sprays of bottle-shaped branchlets tipped with yellow flowers fading to salmon; soon makes a wonderful windowsill potplant (or with time, a stunning hanging basket subject) with very regularly dividing bone shaped stem section forming a very symetrical outline. Distinct from and quite unlike its Rhipsalis kin in that the "Drunkard's Dream" has stem segments which are determinate, meaning in botanical terms that each little bottle shaped segment has a predetermined size and shape when it starts to be formed. Usually shipped as unrooted cuttings in dry moss.

50523 RHOEO BERMUDENSIS [SPATHACEA NANA] COMM HP PRICE: $ 3.50 Tight multi-headed mounds of stiff short fleshy leaves blushed pinkish purple beneath, in tight whorls obscuring the stout stems.

58306 RHOEO [TRADESCANTIA] BERMUDENSIS SITAKE'S GOLD COMM TGH HD PRICE: $ 12.00 Very tidy multiheaded mounds of fleshy thickly overlapping blond hued foliage--each with its distinct stripes of amethyst and champagne green--accented beautifully by the violet blushed underleaf.. A truely dramatic and easily grown entry into the "Moses in the Bullrushes" tribe. The habit is larger than and lower profiled than the typical bermudensis cultivars, yet not the stature of spathaceae. Very beautiful.

50570 RHOEO SPATHACEAE [DISCOLOR] COMM TGH HP PRICE: $ 8.25 The large statured traditional "Moses in a Boat" or "Oyster Plant" so called for the open oyster shell shaped bracts from which peep the white spiderflowers--boat shaped bracts tucked between the thickly packed outthrust fleshy green leaves, purpled beneath. This West Indies native is now more correctly named Tradescantia spathaceae, but seldom so identified in any plant book or magazine article. This is the one grandma grew.

55570 RUELLIA MACRANTHA PROSTRATE SELECTION ACAN HP CGH PRICE: $ 2.25 Softly mounding "Mexican Petunia" now used as a groundcover throughout the tropics, readily produces many upward facing rosy purple "Christmas Pride" blossoms on the downy foliage. Recently discovered by "Tropicals Outdoors" designers for summer boxes and urns for its ability to quickly fill in gaps and vigorously cascade over the lip of and container.

50061 RUELLIA MAKOYANA ACAN TGH CGH PRICE: $6.00 "Monkey Plant." Purplish mauve slightly pendant flowers bloom freely on scandent handsome leaved low shrub.Brazil. Soft dark velvet leaves with vibrant silver veins ensure the continuing popularity of this beautiful "Trailing Velvet Plant."

40904 RUSSELIA EQUISETIFORMIS [JUNCEA] SCR HP CGH HH PRICE: $ 3.75 "Coral Fountain Plant" Gracefully arching fine rush-like glossy stems bear many scarlet red tubular flowers--a living "Firecracker Factory" in constant bloom with bright light. This has nearly endless uses in garden and container designs.

49436 RUSSELIA SARMENTOSA SCR TGH HP 5.50 An unusual "Red Firecracker" plant with tightly whorled bunches of petite bright red tubular flowers at every leafy node on gracefully wide arching stems; the salvia like leaves turn purplish in full sun with cooler temps. Easy in sun. (Although customers inform us that they've observed this species blooming heavily in the shade in Mexico City's windowboxes.)

50111 SANCHEZIA NOBILIS GLAUCOPHYLLA NANA ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Wonderful dwarf form (compartively speaking) of this popular gold-patterned much branching showstopping plant. Red reduced bracts with yellow fls in terminal spikes. The better choice of the Sanchezia for outside container performance as well as houseplant adaptability; the following "Golden Zebra" is far more dramatic in sheer scale as well as more dramatic in the winter greenhouse blossom sweepstakes.

68270 SANSEVIERIA BALLYI 'MINNIE' [RAUH'S KENYA] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Bright green spiky "Hedgehog" type with many stolons (even from upper trunk); the fat upper keeled lower third leaves adorned with a papery horned edge. Much shorter and more compacted clusters of leaves than similar larger statured ones from Kenya. A Werner Rauh collection which has undergone many name changes over the years. Certainly among the cutest unfriendly plants we offer.

68096 SANSEVIERIA CYLINDRICA PATULA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Now ready for shipping again. Please limit your orders to under 5 plants unless you prearrange your order--now that rumors of its medicinal properties are spreading, some orders are reaching unusual proportions. This is the popular "Snake Plant" with recurved terete tapered leaves, with hard tips & darker transverse bands, in handome open fans. Easy BIG fellow, always quite popular with the ladies. Once again available for shipping.

68102 SANSEVIERIA DOONERI [HORT] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $8.50 "Fountain Plant" Arched rosettes similar to S. parva, but with wider pale tannish leaves more strap like and slightly glaucous, becoming low arched for they are far more flexible--thus making it a perfect basket subject. Delicately scented bloom spikes. Underground stolons soon fill pot with glaucous soft strapped whorls. Does best in broken light rather than full sun, thus a perfect subject for a houseplant.

60871 SANSEVIERIA JAVANICA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Short vertically challenged rosettes out arched in tight extremely abbreviated rotund rosettes. The slight gloss and deep tones these compact sculptures achieve in indirect light can be considerably amplified by growing this under lites where it looks like a miniature hahnii sidetracked by a sausage stuffer. These mahogany tinted dark squat plump recurved rosettes form a mounded carpet of multiple heads in time--'tis a wonder that HBO simply doesn't feature it in a series called FAT HEMP. Certainly one of the prize small statured Sansevieria--we need to be grateful to Alice Waidhoffer for distributing this charmer.

68125 SANSEVIERIA KIRKII PULCHRA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Known horticulturally as S. metallica; or as the "Star Sansevieria." Wide flattened rosette of thick wide stiftly undulant leaves richly mottled pale green on black-emerald; astonishing cone-shaped inflorescence of greenish-white scented blossoms (we say "scented"; we do not say "fragrant" as do some books and catalogues). Zanzibar native. (Actually they may indeed smell of greenish-white.)

68139 SANSEVIERIA PARVA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.75 "Kenya Hyacinth" Thick deep green banded leaves in small dense rosettes which send out long pendant runners (stolons) ending in tiny plantlets; thus, excellent choice for growing in baskets. Fragrant palest pink bottlebrush blooms. Also known as S. d'amabilise, in early Sansevieria books, this species is deservedly popular as it always remains small statured, requires less than ideal conditions, tolerates shade and survives neglect.

68154 SANSEVIERIA SENEGAMBICA [CORNUI] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.50 Short upright curved leaves flattening toward the tip end with a slim point, the surface a matte-green with faint banding. Good compact waxy leaved species with reddish rhizomes & violet-white flowerss. If grown in a moss or coconut fiber basket, it loves to send forth stolons thru the medium to emerge through the fiber to form new plantlets resulting in an amazing "globe" of foliage being achieved--a trick also endearing this very compact grower to designers of succulent wreaths. Very easily grown houseplant with the endearing trick of elevating itself up out of its container--not very fussy about light intensities.

68271 SANSEVIERIA SP. KOKO CRATER AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 50.00 Originally from the late Ed Eby who collected this from an abandoned USDA planting on this Hawaiian crater. Bright avocado green very rigid leaves with irregular chevrons in rigid fans punctuating a thick stolon. This is a cylindrica form that has runners that zigzag directly over the pot and over the edges. Like a squat short S. cylindrica with ridged indentations up and down the stem. Rather uncommon; unique for being more obviously distichous than other stoloniferous "hedgehog' types.

68157 SANSEVIERIA SPICATA (HORT:CONCINNA?) AGA HP TGH PRICE: $8.50 "Tea Spoon Hemp" Manda's compact houseplant with unique spatulate short leaves of deep green ending in "spoon handle" bottoms; pale fragrant tubular flowers. Certainly one of the most attractive and appealing of the small statured "Hemps" even if its botanic identity remains in limbo .

68162 SANSEVIERIA SUBSPICATA [HORT] AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 This clone we have is from Manda's collection, representing the most easily grown form most common in USA--Deep green-black undulate wide leaves on slender petioles, with bright horned edges; the very short leaves overlap in irregular tostled rosettes. Tolerant of much neglect. Some customers enjoy starting this in a mossed wire topiary whereupon it gradually sticks out its meandering stolons to form writhing rosettes of foliage eventually covering the entire surface--quite wonderful, although requiring patience. This stoloniferous trick also endears this very compact plant with succulent wreath designers as well. We hope not to be accused of shameless price gouging on this guy.

68173 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA HAHNII AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 The original "Birdsnest Plant" Cup-shaped tight rosette of broad spiral leaves dark green with paler crossbanding; freely suckers to form a clump. Found in New Orleans in 1939 and considered to be trifasciata trapped in a juvenile form. Common as dirt, but still totally reliable and cute as a button.

68413 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA HAHNII JADE AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Jade Birdsnest Plant" One of the most distinctive of the Hahni group as the foliage displays no markings or chevrons on the gorgeous deep jade surfaced thick substanced leaves of deep mahogany green-- the somewhat sheened pointed leaves thickly overlap to form tight upright cups. Very bold. Take a look at the next entry also, for a variegated sport of this beauty.

60980 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA HAHNII JADE MARGINATA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $22.00 "Rimmed Birdsnest Plant" One of the most distinctive of the Hahni group as the foliage has no markings or chevrons, but rather, a most bold golden margin to contrast with the deep jade green of the main body. The contrast is stunning.

12912 SAXIFRAGA STOLONIFERA [SARMENTOSA] SAX HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Strawberry Begonia" or "Creeping Sailor" Flat central rosette of silver-veined leaves, reddish beneath, sends out thread-like runners with new plantlets. Versatile plant although neither related botanically to strawberries nor to Begonias.

40913 SAXIFRAGA STOLONIFERA AUREA SAX HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Golden Magic Carpet" Round, toothed leaves either solid golden chartreuse or with green-flamed centers; very beautiful, tho less vigorous than the species.

30400 SCINDAPSIS PICTUS ARGYRAEUS ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 4.75 "Satin Pothos" Beautiful leathery matte-green shimmering leaves are brushed with sugary silver. Good houseplant, although a bit slow to start. Foliage leathery enough to survive variable humidity levels, thus remaining among our favorite indoor plants--but be sure this beauty is proctected from chill. Currently enjoying much popularity as a star in a terrarium designs.

40916 SCIRPUS CERNUUS [ISOLEPIS GRACILIS] CYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Electric Grass" or "Fountain Bullrush" Perfect miniature tufts of translucent pendant green thread leaves tipped with bright straw-white bracts not unlike a mop of fiber optics! Must have constant moisture to thrive. Equally successful as an aquatic tub subject or a tuffet in a terrarium, or a mane in moss topiary; somewhat hardy in the very deep south.

60466 SEDUM LINEARE VARIEGATUM CRA CGH HP HH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Star Sedum" Soft much-branched ascending stems are covered with soft white-margined leaves; Its low mat-forming quality makes this a common cascading basket subject and a natural for succulent wreaths. Cool winters trigger this Japanese species to cover itself with starry yellow flowers late spring. Although listed in various books as Z6 or Z7 winter hardy, it has never survived a winter here outdoors. We list it as a tropical, but it is often used in the south as a perennial.

60469 SEDUM MAKINOI MARGINATUM CRA CGH HH HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Snow Ladder" General habit and character of S. lineare, but the white-edged shingled spatulate leaves are rounded--overlapping on trailing soft stems to form "stairways"; yellow flowers. Japanese native much used by wreath designers and basic in succulent dish gardens.

60470 SEDUM MEXICANUM CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Mexican Stonecrop" Mounds of waxy fresh-green soft needle shaped leaves densely packed on hidden fat toppling stems--makes a perfect ground cover for stemmy pot plants; quite basic for decorative small hanging baskets or dish gardens; a basic for succulent wreaths and small moss topiary. Starry yellow flowers usually appear late winter on this amazingly undemanding stonecrop.

11624 SELAGINELLA KRAUSIANA GOLD TIPS SEL CGH TERR PRICE: $ 4.50 OFTEN LIMITED AVAILABILITY Fabulous ferny carpet with all new growth tipped bright yellow against the darker mature clubmoss foliage--not as vigorous or as highly colored as 'aurea.'

11413 SELAGINELLA MARTENSII ALBOLINEATA SEL HP TERR PRICE: $6.75 "Snowy Club Moss" Arched, yet creeping, prostrate brittle, much-divided stems winged with scale-like glossy leaves with irregular patches of pure bright white--astoundingly beautiful--but be warned that this will remain entirely green if grown in constantly warm conditions. Mexican species for the larger terrarium. Rare cultivar yet not difficult to grow if given reliable levels of humidity.

11472 SELAGINELLA PLANA SEL TERR TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Strong erect stems hold bright branched fans of shimmery foliage. Very distinctive beautiful "Spikemoss Cypress" species achieving more dramatic height than most of the tropical "Clubmosses." Certainly not "creepy." Unmatched for giving an exceptionally elegant vertical effect in a wardian case or larger terrarium; but remember that this is very tropical and thus, unlike various Selaginella species offered here, is not tolerant of chill.

60580 SENECIO IMPLEXUS COMP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 "Maasai Carpet" Lovely fuzzy-velvet avacado-green thick leaves archly dangle on thick cascading stems with swollen roots; makes a handsome carpet groundcover or an extraordinary hanging basket subject. One of the easiest furry creatures for your garden combinations. As the fat stems are willing to root as they roam, this is an ideal furry creature to train around and around your succulent wreath for a knockout result.

60581 SENECIO JACOBSENII [PETRAEUS] COMP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Vining / Trailing Jade" Glossy round-edged fleshy overlapping leaves shingle the thick trailing stems; excellent windowbox or hanging basket plant especially with its showy orangy yellow cushion flowers mid-winter. Like S. implexus, the fat succulent stems love to root into any media as they roam about, making this a perfect beautiful vine to wrap around and around your succulent wreath for a fantastic shingled look. A very high performance easily grown fat and sassy vine.

41904SENECIO MACROGLOSSUS MEDIO-PICTUS COM CGH PRICE: $ 6.50 Beautiful "Golden Cape/Natal Ivy" is a selection of this decoratively lobed heavy-substanced "Wax Ivy" with a golden ocher flame down each succulent leaf; Yellow ray flowers reveal it to be a daisy family member, perfect in the cool conservatory.

41471 SENECIO MIKANIOIDES [DELAIREA ODORATA] COMP HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.25 "German Ivy" or "Parlor Ivy" Glossy angled bright green leaves on succulent stems. South African species remaining quite popular as it tolerates a range of conditions. As likely to tumble from a windowbox in today's designs (especially as grows at least three times as fast as true Hedera ivies), as from the ornate urns in Nineteenth Century gardens--but always among the most popular of houseplants. Some plants are never out of fashion (even though their latin names morph into tonguetwisters).

60888 SENECIO PLEISTOCEPHALUS COMP CGH HP PRICE: $5.50 Scandent African shrublet, the "Golden Garland Vine" with broad semi-succulent oval leaves, attractively serrated; tiny bright yellow flowers in astoundingly large masses mid winter in the greenhouse. Fanciers of succulents are drawn to this for its gradually expanding woody base (caudex): by the way, many succulent leaved, and fat stemmed, and caudiform species of Senecio are offered in the SUCCULENTS section of this website. Click Here to go directly to the succulent Senecio listings and take a gander at some very fat dasies.

41472 SENECIO SCANDENS VIVIAN PERRY COMP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Another "German Ivy" cousin; but actually a ray-flowered Asian species with angled holly like leaves somewhat elongately triangular. This attractive "Charlatan Ivy" produces showy heads of sulphur-yellow daisy flowers typically around Christmas followed by tiny dandelion seed heads; effectively displayed in a hanging baskets year round. Much showier blossoms than those of mikanioides.

50527 SETCREASEA [TRADESCANTIA] PALLIDA [PURPUREA] COMM HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Purple Heart" Trailing succulent stems clasped by dark purple strap leaves with cobwebby hairs; violet spiderwort flowers. This is the basic.

49431 SETCREASEA [TRADESCANTIA] PALLIDA BILTMORE BIMBO COMM HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 . "Giant Purple Heart" A very broad leaved form of the traditional standby, considered somewhat hardy in the South. This new fabulous form is a great dramatic basket plant as well as a showy summertime bedding plant.

20359 SINNINGIA SELLOVII GES HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 From soft basal foliage mature stems (eventually as tall as three feet) bear many pendant swollen dark salmon pink fls attractive to every passing hummingbird; seed collector Tim Ross recommends full light to encourage spring to fall bloom for this Brazillian native. Various plant friends store the (eventually) considerably sized tuber during the winter with other tropical bulbs, then plant out directly into their garden beds (sunny spots are best, with rich well drained soil--anywhere glads and dahlias thrive) for an astounding summer display--few visitors to their gardens can even begin to guess what the succulent leaved Gesneriad with an attentant vigilant hummingbird might possibly be (they'll never guess Gesneriad, alone Sinningia)! Since I characteristically neglect to dig most tropical bulbs & tubers, I keep my oldest tubers (some now 15 years old) in giant 15" baskets where they are essentially evergreen.

20230 SINNINGIA TUBIFLORA GES HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Tall stems (studded with pairs of small scalloped leaves) terminate with fragrant white tubed blossoms with flared lobes. Unusual chill tolerant type grown as an outdoor plant in southern California (but tubers must be considerably below frost line in perfectly drained soil). Rather too leggy to be an attractive houseplant--and the dormancy cycles can be perplexing--so just plant in a pot with a Bromeliad, Orchid, or even Oxalis as it is always happiest growing in another plant's pot, especially as tends to be quite stoloniferous with new shoots appearing unexpectedly in other areas of a wide pot. This characteristic has led several horticulturalists to suspect this to actually be the Brazilian Sinningia tuberosa.

42230 SOLANUM SEAFORTHIANUM SOL CGH PRICE: $ 5.25 Vigorous "Brazilian Nightshade" vine with deeply lobed lacy pinnate leaves; bright purple-blue starry flowerss followed by pea-sized red berries--performs well only if give full sun.. Check for availability before ordering as this is typically only seasonally stocked as most of our customers grow this dangerous creature as an annual.

31476 SPATHIPHYLLUM DOMINO [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 We have various "Variegated Peace Lily" selections, but this is the most vibrantly streaked, mottled, richly colored one of all--with thick foliage tightly erect forming a compact clumping habit. Super. Our clone is from Milestone Pat#9944

40927 STENOTAPHRUM SECUNDATUM VARIEGATUM GRA HP PRICE: $5.00 "St. Augustine Grass" Stoloniferous basket trailer with Art Deco blunt-tipped blades banded white presented in two-dimensional fans sequencing along the wiry stems. Vigorous. Thriving in a bright window; popular as a dramatic "spiller" in urns and windowboxes; dramatic as a carpeting "lawn" in tropical settings.

20262 STREPTOCARPELLA HOLSTII GES PRICE: $ 3.25 Erect fleshy violet blushed oddly swollen shiny stems with haired heart-leaves present the bright blue flowers--the blue intensified by the white spot on each throat. African native must have moist yet perfectly drained soil. NOT your typical Gesneriad.

20263 STREPTOCARPELLA SAXORUM ALBA {VARIEGATA} GES HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Variegated Dauphin Violet" Plush-haired succulent leaves emerge white on much-branched cascading stems; azure blue flowers dance on slim stems. Handsome East African native. The pale foliage fades to soft green for a two tone effect.

51736 STROBILANTHES FLACCIDIFOLIUS ACAN TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.75 Impressively statured "Vein Leaf Acanthus" with thickened veins so promnent as to be in relief. Showy plant quickly forming a showy quilted deep vertigris green filler in summer containers with wands of bluish flowers in the fall. The strongly ribbed foliage has proven to make this a successful houseplant as well..

30416 SYNGONIUM AURITUM ARAC HP PRICE: $ 8.00 Thick textured rich waxy green five sectioned leaves. Sturdy deep green fingered foliage on a strong vine eventually reaching (achieving?) substantial size. Usually mistaken to be a Philodendron.

30423 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM ALBO-VARIEGATUM ARAC HP PRICE: $ 5.75 "French marble" "White Butterfly" Irregular patches of pure paperwhite on deep green arrowhead leaves. Easy and beautiful. The most popular every year.

99611 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM IVORY ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Slow growing abbreviated vine with unusually large arrowhead leaves of near white faintly airbrushed with lime. So very pale as to need greenhouse humidity to prevent tip burn--we most certainly cannot recommend this as a houseplant. Remarkable, even if not care free!

71950 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM MANGO ALLUSION ARAC HP PRICE: $4.75 Very wide puckered heart shaped foliage a rich pinkish bronze with shimmery peach tones and pale violet veins. Ravishing!

30428 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM MOTTLED ARROWHEAD ARAC HP PRICE: $ 3.00 "Mottled Arrowhead" Very striking irregular yellow ochre slashes and patches over the entire surface--often these raised variegations twist the horned leaves into monstrose puckered shapes. Vigorous selection by the late Gene Calkins. Very vigorous, very flashy. By far one of the most popular cultivars (but totally missing from the plant trade).

99610 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM NEON ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $6.75 Extremely bright solid pinkish pink (with overtones and undertones of negligee pink)--richly saturated color on each arrowhead leaf. Needs to be seen to be believed--a far more arresting, sharper color saturation than any of the 'Allusion' series, but not as wide a leaf outline.

60607 TALINUM PATENS KINGWOOD GOLD POR CGH HP PRICE: $ 3.25 Marvelous "Golden Fame Flower" selection made at Kingwood Center in Mansfield, Ohio with bright chartreuse-gold foliage creating a very striking contrast with the misty clusters of carmine flowers. This is now quite popular as an outdoor summer bedding subject--to see a sweep of these at Kingwood Center is a true design overload. Equally dramatic as a dependable spot of gold in your winter windowsill.

42348 TECOMARIA CAPENSIS BIG TGH PRICE: $ 7.75 The South African "Cape Honeysuckle," a bushy scandent shrub with attrractive dark pinnate foliage and showy upfaced terminal clusters of brilliantly scarlet trumpet/funnel flowers which appear on new growth in abundance late summer, much to the delight of hmmingbirds. While this Mozambique showoff does perform best outdoors in full sun, this should only encourage you to radically prune back the woody stems after the blooming frenzy and stash the container in a cool spot during the winter.

11401 TECTARIA CICUTARIA [GEMMIFERA, HORT.] POL HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Button Ball Fern" Upright rhizomes with gracefully arching tripinnate fronds (triangular in overall outline) with a series on rounded button-like bulbils along the top of the central midrib. Caribbean tolerant of indoor conditions. A fern no child can resist and most impressive a a central focus in a wardian case design.

41085 TETRASTIGMA VOINIERIANUM VIT HP TGH PRICE: $ 17.50 "Chestnut Vine" or "Lizard Plant" Enormous fleshy digitate leaves emerge with a cinnamon toned tawny wool supported on fleshy reddish ropelike stems. Handsome Laotian grape vine for the brave of heart. This is large and quickly gets very much larger. An excellent way to start your collection of Laotian natives. The price reflects not so much the rarity of this handsome creature as the rather complicated procedure of packing it for shipping.

54014 THUNBERGIA BATTISCOMBEI ACAN CGH TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Shrubby vining Kenyan species with beautiful glossy leaves and racemes of electric blue (with a hint of violet) trumpet blossoms with yellow throats; best kept in a warm greenhouse during the winter so can start its big display early on. We've grown many "Clockvine" species, and this remains the most impressive flower--and even more impressively, the flowers are produced readily compared to many of the more famous species. Take a look at the last two thumbnails of this plant, provided to us from Kathy Keller. These were all plants bought from us last year as starter plants. All were grown from a this small size for a Fall Garden Show. We thank Kathy for sharing these photos with us. The plant in the upper right hand corner got First Prize!

53146 THUNBERGIA ERECTA FAIRY MOON GES HP PRICE: $ 8.50 Attractive reliable shrubby "Picottee King's Mantle" with lavender blue trumpet shaped blossoms edged in white and throated yellow. Height of blooming in midwinter for us, although not exclusively. Foliage always beautifully maintained.

51737 THUNBERGIA GRANDIFLORA VARIEGATA ACAN TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Remarkable "Banded Bengal Trupet" shared by David Biggar with showy broad creamy white borders on each dramatic leaf; same blue violet trumpet flowers as the species form of this most favorite of conservatory vines. We have considerably reduced the original price because this is far easier to grow than we anticipated--if you have limited space in your greenhouse why not grow this clone to achieve beautiful foliage for continued drama between bloom cycles. Again, to successfully bloom this beauty, set up an area where the root base (in a container, or in the ground) will not be disturbed for an extended period.

53341 TILLANDSIA CYANEA ANITA [HYB] BRO HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.75 Highly colored version of the popular cyanea--attractive small tuffets of deeply arched deep green leathery slim leaves (like a very friendly hedgehog) from which arise the dramatic wide violet pink "Pink Feather" comb of bracts along which emerge, over a period of time, the cute blue (cyane) blossoms. Unlike most species, this is semi-terrestial, easily grown in a pot of orchid bark, wonderful in topiary designs; often marketed growing out of an ornamental seashell.

53269 TILLANDSIA JUNCEA BRO HP TGH PRICE: $ 7.00 "Wiskbroom Air Plant" Many compact rushlike leaves held in a upright rosette; the coppery deep green leaves of this selection from Ann Harris reach 12"; the bracts of the inflorescence are bright red, the petals bluish purple.

52172 TILLANDSIA USNEOIDES BRO HP TGH HH PRICE: $ 1.75 "Spanish Moss" Silvery-gray threaded masses of tiny plantlets in dramatic garland famous in subtropical and tropical America for their eventual effect on draped trees; yet the perfect houseplant for compulsive mister-ers. Not collected--this is a bright silvery clone from Guatamala (and thus not needing the chill winter of any collected in the southern USA where most clones are a shade dingy gray in color anyway) which has been growing happily in our Ohio greenhouses for the last 20 years. We notice that our customers are beginning to use this lavishly in their terrarium designs where it thrives.

40938 TOLMIEA MENZIESII VARIEGATA SAX HP CGH HH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Variegated Piggy Back Plant" Fresh green, hairy, lobed leaves with richly yellow-flecked surfaces grow plantlets on the tops of the leaf base. Likes a cool spot with good humidity. Renamed 'Taff's Gold' in England.

50539 TRADESCANTIA BLOSSFELDIANA COM HP PRICE: $ 4.50 "Flowering Inch Plant" Emerald green succulent pelted leaves, purple beneath, thickly ranked on short thick stems sheathed with purple-sepaled flowers of white tipped pink. We have offered this in the past and now have it ready again. Easy. This makes a good windowsill plant as well as summertime urn plant.

50542 TRADESCANTIA FLUMINENSIS AUREA COMM HP PRICE: $ 3.75 "Golden Inch Plant" Cascades of bright chartreuse leaves on cascading stems displayed to advantage as a golden addition to windowboxes and hanging baskets. Forms marvelous groundcover--try in as a low surface of glossy lemon ochre under your bed of Impatiens or purple leaved Dahlias to shake up the visuals a bit.

50546 TRADESCANTIA FLUMINENSIS VARIEGATA COMM HP TGH CGH PRICE: $ 3.75 "Speedy Henry" Glossy green & white striped foliage; excellent subject for hanging baskets, for groundcover; try outdoors as a easy quick summertime groundcover. Even though this should be simply dead common, amazing numbers of orders arrive for this every year. Cheap, easy, flashy: these sterling values never fail.

50532 TRIPOGANDRA FALSE BROMELIAD [HORT] COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Streaked False Bromeliad" Introduced initially as a Callisia but more likely to be Hadrodemas warscewicsiana striata (which sounds rather terminal). Large upright whorled cups of tightly overlapping white-streaked fleshy leaves. A very popular, handsome plant even if of uncertain nomenclature. Showy--your friends will not believe this is a Spiderwort until the branched inflorescence appears with the cute three petaled flowers.

66780 URENA LOBATA [PROCUMBENS] ROSE NEWMAN MAL TGH HP PRICE: $ 5.25 This small shrub collection from China shared with us by Robert Newman (and named for his mother) of a quite special member of the "Asian Snowflake Mallows" sports very beautiful lobed leaves of pale ochre dramatically banded in dark green; demure lilac mini-hibiscus blossoms line the stems early winter. Thus a good winter greenhouse or plantroom candidate; while always an excellent foliage plant for summer beds and containers and enjoying a new spurt of interest as an excellent performer as a staked formal topiary subject. South Florida and Rio Valley Texans have reported this root hardy in their outdoor plantings.

40957 VANILLA PLANIFOLIA [FRAGRANS] ORC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Always popular vine. Wide leathery waxy leaves line the thick vining stems; important commercial "Vanilla Orchid" source of the vanilla bean--the yellow-green flowers are hard to produce with inadequate light, considerable heat, and considerable patience. Sent as generous unrooted cttings in dry moss. If you wish us to hold this until the new aerial roots have penetrated their mossy pots, please advise and we will work out a schedule.

40971 VIOLA HEDERACEA [ERPETION RENIFORME] VIO HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Basket Violet" or "Australian Violet" Trailing stems with clumps of rounded leaves and lovely flowers of violet-purple with innocent white eyes. Easy, popular compact candidate for baskets or as a nonaggresive groundcover in your greenhouse; we've even seen it used on large mossed topiaries although a bear blooming with hundreds of violets can be a challenge to the senses! If given a bright location with even moisture and fertilizer, this tropical violet will produce flushes of blooms throughout the year.

52181 VRIESEA BLEHRI BRO HP CGH PRICE: $ 18.00 Closely clustered elegant small maroon-purple vases, often called "Lobster Claw Bromo" for its mid-winter inflorescence which mimics a Heliconia's attempt to attract every nearby hummingbird. as the short stalks are topped with opposite ranks of miniature pale orange claw-like flowers. Excellent in the greenhouse; attractive on the windowsill; very beautiful when grown under lights.

41716 WEDELIA TRILOBATA OUTENREATH GOLD COMP HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.50 "Golden Water Zinnia" A remarkable selection of the very popular hanging basket & groundcover "vine" with striking golden-ocher splashes & slashes on every tri-lobed leaf: most impressive when combined with the yellow daisy fls. Also successful as a groundcover bog plant. This variegated sport was discovered and shared with us by Gary Outenreath. For reasons known only to them, Parks received this from us and now offers this as "Outerreath Gold"!

30444 XANTHOSOMA JACQUINII LINEATUM ARAC TGH CGH PRICE: $ 12.50 Crested leaves with whitish striations raised above the arrowhead leaves' surface; unexpectedly easy to grow as this is as vigorous as any of its similar cousin Colocasias. May we insert information you will never use: this very odd 'Monstrose Elephant Ear' is now included in the "Undipes Complex." So very complex, so very over the top. So imperative to add to your collection.

30440 XANTHOSOMA VIOLACEUM ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Blue Taro" Purple stems arch into swooping arrowhead leaves of dusky violet darkening to a rich purple toward the margins; this West Indian semi-aquatic "Blue Ape" must have warm winter conditions to maintain evergreen foliage; easiest to grow as a semi-aquatic in summer (but very successful as a container companion plant or even planted in a bed with some perfect color companion like 'Lime Zinger'): then store like a dormant "Elephant Ear" during the winter. And like all Colocasias and Xanthosomas, most successfully stored by leaving them in their containers so that their ever so slightly moist undisturbed potting mix is around them all winter to prevent drying out and rot. Nonetheless, reliably evergreen [everpurple] in your winter greenhouse or warm plantroom.

40976 XIPHIDIUM CAERULEUM HAE TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Fans of purple-stained leaves sensitive to extended chill--although survives fine otdoors in the Florida Keys. The fans of iris-mimic leaves are topped with odd cupped white pendant flowers in panicles; and thus this curiosity is known in the West Indies as "Angelhands" from which it easily makes a transition to a sunny windowsill oddity. We have never understood why zoos order this regularly, yet botanic gardens have seldom placed a request. A Noah's Ark complex? Nonetheless: Time for you to grow something so quaintly attractive in the family Haemodoraceae!

30446 ZAMIOCULCAS LANCEOLATA ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Aroid Palm" Very thick purpled petioles hold ranks of waxy succulent leaves on outarched thick succulent stems arising from a tuberous root. This elegant plant, now heavily marketed as the "ZZ Palm" is one of the few purely desert aroids. Beware that the leaflets typically shatter when shipped--just tuck them into a rooting mix and each will form a plantlet.

50553 ZEBRINA PENDULA DISCOLOR MULTICOLOR COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Pink Wandering Jew" Broad pinkish-cream & ochre stripes on the glittery leaves with their opulently hued purple reverses. This has always been one of our most ordered variegated plants.

50556 ZEBRINA PENDULA PURPUSII CIN GO CGG PRICE: $ 3.25 Deep pruple foliage--the darkest we have seen--with slight silvery chevrons giving depth to the darkness. Rather smaller foliage than most cultivars.

59394 ZEBRINA PENDULA SILVER PLUS COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 A selection of the "Silver Banded Inch Plant" with very showy broad bands of glittery silver on each succulent leaf if grown in very high light. Appearance will vary radically with different levels of light, ambient humidity and nutrients. We consider this far more dramatic in baskets and urns than the species form.

56544 ZINGIBER MIDNIGHT ZIN TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.50 Marvelous "Black Ginger" with arched stems winged with glossy maroon overlapping leaves; the lovely blossoms open creamy yellow gradually changing to peachy apricot. Wonderful color in any plant combination, or as a solo pot plant. If the roots are slightly chilled, or if (not that this could happen) watering schedules are missed, this small ginger will drop its foliage; but never fear for a new fresh set of stems will emerge from the undersoil bulb/tuber and the color will be better than ever.
